Ignore the reality of cybercrime at your own risk.

This week, one of my team members got an email that announced scammers are exploiting the Equifax breach.

Last week, we received an email about what’s going on in Louisiana. If you haven’t heard yet, “Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards…declared a state-wide emergency this week following cyberattacks on several school districts.” (Read the article I’m quoting here.)

Even I almost took the bait for a spear phishing scheme.

Protecting your business is a must. So where do you start?

Join us on September 17.

Proactive IT has teamed up with the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), which is coming to Charlotte to host a free cybersecurity workshop: Cyber-Secure Your Small Business.

When, where, and what time?

The NCSA is holding its free cybersecurity workshop on September 17, 2019, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Here is the address:

Gorelick Hall at Shalom Park
5007 Providence Road
Charlotte, NC 28226

Do I need to RSVP?

Yes, you will need to reserve your seat. To do so, please visit the NCSA’s Eventbrite page. Here is the link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cybersecure-your-small-business-charlotte-nc-tickets-65819418653

Once you click “Register,” you’ll need to enter your first name, last name, and email address.

There is limited seating at our venue. If you want to guarantee a spot, please go ahead and register in advance.

What will I learn?

This free cybersecurity event will begin with a fireside chat.

During this time, I’ll be joining Cindy Liebes (from the Federal Trade Commission) and Amalia Mercedes Restucha-Klem (from the NC Department of Justice) to discuss cybersecurity.

Afterward, you’re going to participate in a very practical tabletop workshop.

If you check out the Eventbrite page, you might notice that the workshop uses the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (something we’ve already mentioned in my blog on The Silent Bad Actor).

As NIST explains, this involves five key elements:

  • Identify
  • Protect
  • Detect
  • Respond
  • Recover

If you’re a small- or medium-sized business, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework can be daunting. And you might think it’s something for large corporations only.

But that’s simply not the case.

The NIST Cybersecurity Framework can help businesses of all sizes—even if you only have a few employees. This event will help you take a step in the right direction.
