This week, one of my team members got an email that announced scammers are exploiting the Equifax breach.

Last week, we received an email about what’s going on in Louisiana. If you haven’t heard yet, “Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards…declared a state-wide emergency this week following cyberattacks on several school districts.” (Read the article I’m quoting here.)

Even I almost took the bait for a spear phishing scheme.

The NCSA is holding its free cybersecurity workshop on September 17, 2019, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

What will I learn? 

This free cybersecurity event will begin with a fireside chat. 

During this time, I’ll be joining Cindy Liebes (from the Federal Trade Commission) and Amalia Mercedes Restucha-Klem (from the NC Department of Justice) to discuss cybersecurity. 

Afterward, you’re going to participate in a very practical tabletop workshop.

If you check out the Eventbrite page, you might notice that the workshop uses the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (something we’ve already mentioned in my blog on The Silent Bad Actor).  

As NIST explains, this involves five key elements:   

• Identify
• Protect 
• Detect 
• Respond 
• Recover 

If you’re a small- or medium-sized business, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework can be daunting. And you might think it’s something for large corporations only. 

But that’s simply not the case. 

The NIST Cybersecurity Framework can help businesses of all sizes—even if you only have a few employees. This event will help you take a step in the right direction.
